May 02, 2014 · First, if you do have an Apple Time Capsule or AirPort Extreme providing your wireless network, do you also have a Comcast Wi-Fi modem? If so, you can trade it in for a plain Comcast modem, and save yourself a few dollars every month.
Dec 26, 2011 · If you want to connect the AirPort Extreme to the Internet, purchase a Cat5 ethernet cable and use it to connect the AirPort Extreme to your DSL or cable modem. Plug the cable in to the AirPort Extreme's Internet WAN port (it has a little O symbol above it). AirPort Extreme and Express base stations retain this option, but also allow and encourage the use of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and, as of July 14, 2005, WPA2. AirPort Extreme cards, which use the Broadcom chipset, have the Media Access Control layer in software. The driver is closed source. AirPort Disk The AirPort Extreme has a tall design with the six antennas at the top for a higher platform for dispersing the WiFi signal. The six antennas support the dual-band ( three for 2.4GH and 3 for 5GHz) wireless technology to let you connect faster, farther and seamlessly. The Apple Extreme's Router function has to be put into Bridge mode so it acts as an Access Point. I implemented this set up in 2014 and works without issue. It's a personal preference, on the Apple, I use different SSIDs to those on the Telstra Modem so that I know which network I am connecting to when upstairs. The Airport Extreme has no ADSL modem, so it can't do the connection to the telephone exchange, so you will still need the Homehub (or any 3rd party ADSL Modem router) to make the connection.
